Abstract :
The authors discuss a method of supplying power to a telecommunications system in which large and rapid short-circuit current occurs. Power systems applied to the satellite communications system planned to be service in the middle of 1992 led to the developed AC power system, in which high-sped semiconductor breakers are used to interrupt rush current generated in the AC power line between an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and a high-power amplifier. The analysis leads to the conclusion that a semiconductor breaker has the ability to interrupt rush current caused by a short-circuit in the high-power amplifiers. In terms of cost and space requirements the power system is superior to the conventional one
