  • Abstract
According to the data of the throughput of some Chinese ports and related railways, the article analyzes respective advantages and disadvantages of sea-highway and sea railway transportation. Railway transportation is quite inexpensive, quick and safe. The article takes Ningbo Beilun Harbor as an example, suggests building double-track railways for the harbor and adopting automatic blocking system so as to improve the transportation efficiency. Among the goods transferred through die harbor, resource materials account for largest proportion. Therefore there is an unbalance in the two directions of the railway transportation. The railways double track automatic block transportation in the same direction simultaneously can increase the carrying capacity, and the railway signal equipment may guarantee the transportation safety. All in all, railway automatic block transportation in the same direction simultaneously can boost the combined transportation ability and the economic efficiency.
