Abstract
Because technical writers are sometimes called on to evaluate whether or not particular research findings are pertinent to their situation, it is important for them to have a basic understanding of research methodology. The author examines two issues: (1) identifying the two main types of methodology in business and technical communication research-quantitative and qualitative-and (2) helping technical communication practitioners understand the distinguishing characteristics of these methods
