Abstract
A 4×4 planar array of MQW surface modulators driven by standard high-speed CMOS has been demonstrated in an experimental interconnect system. The system provides 16 parallel 100 Mbit/s channels. Similar arrays provide weighted parallel connections in an opto-electronic neural network which also incorporate a computer-originated hologram to define the weights. The potential exists to increase substantially array dimensions and transmission rates in both applications
