Abstract
The author examines the applications of microwaves to one particular processing step involved in the production of ceramic materials, that of sintering. The volumetric nature of power deposition gives four main advantages over conventional sintering: the uniform heating of any size and shape; a reduction in thermal stresses; sintering from the inside out; and the possibility of selective heating
