Intelligent aids to design: some user interface issues

Discusses user interface design for intelligent systems intended to support the engineering design community. Types of intelligent design aids are briefly described and attention is given to the importance of identifying the nature of work undertaken at different stages in the design cycle and matching interaction styles to this work. The development of an expert system to advise on manufacturing feasibility is discussed in the light of these considerations
