Abstract
Describes an application for which user interface support is required, the detailed requirements for which are unknown to the software developers. To optimise usability of dynamically configured dialogue elements a small number of rules embodying human factors principles was formulated to constrain the construction of these elements. This exercise has not only led to substantial enhancement of the usability of the product, but has contributed to the formulation of a model for the further application of KBS techniques to deliver human factors guidelines to user interface design
