Abstract :
Many technological companies track performance in terms of quantifiable index. For example, profit/loss, growth rate, design cycle time, product portfolio, patents, etc. Each of these can be measured in terms of dollars, numbers, or an index that can be easily tracked. This places emphasis on the “effect”. But the emphasis on the “cause” is missed which can indicate to a company that a problem exists before it translates into an effect. In this paper, we present a method that can be used to measure the technical strength of a work force for a project, division, or even for an entire company. This proposed "technical depth index" could be applied in building stronger skill sets
