Abstract
Quality control of water supplies requires a large number of samples to be taken; at water. The paper describes the main features of Sample Collection Manager (SCM) software, and the way in which it has been developed. The SCM computer program may be run in resource planning mode. This allows the manager to set up a revised set of resources, sites and sampling targets, and to simulate sample collection operation for a period of time. By this means the effect of expected changes can be appraised in a short desk study; and then the necessary changes to resources may be put in place at the same time as changes in the sampling regime are implemented
