Abstract
Developments in the public network are bringing the vision of the integration of electronic office services and communications services at the desktop into a practical reality. The paper describes how these developments can be used to support a CSCW application and reports work currently in progress to demonstrate and build technical standards for the basic technology. Desktop microcomputers will be able to employ the facilities of the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), and eventually the Integrated Broadband Network (IBC), to provide videotelephony based conferencing on the typical office desk. A major issue in the acceptance and uptake of ISDN services in day to day office work, is the manner in which the services are presented to the customer at his or her desk
