Abstract
The author describes a compact permanent-magnet electrical machine suitable for use as a generator in a micro-CHP system. It can generate three-phase AC power into the grid at a leading but uncontrolled power factor. It is short and therefore suitable for mounting directly on its engine, leading to a high degree of system integration. With appropriate electrical supply, it may also operate as a motor to start the engine
