Abstract :
A clearing algorithm was implemented and is under further development to provide a tool for modeling the effect of the planned couplings of the European day-ahead markets. In this paper the effect of the coupling of the Czech, Slovak and Hungarian power exchanges is presented. The paper also analyses the effect of the introduction of block products on the liquidity of the Hungarian Power Exchange, where only hourly products could be traded prior to August 2011. Several scenarios of various allowed block sizes and types have been investigated. The appearance of a group of new special players was also simulated. The effect of selling cogeneration production - displaced from obligatory offtake - in the power exchange was investigated. Finally a framework was developed for the implemented algorithm in order to apply it for educational purposes. During laboratory lessons the students are acting as traders and trying to maximize their profit over existing constraints.
