Abstract
In this paper, we propose that a helically corrugated waveguide, whose properties were intensively studied in the course of work on gyro-TWTs be used as a frequency dispersive medium for microwave pulse compression. The main advantage of such a waveguide is that helical symmetry and circular polarization of the operating mode permit the realization of the necessary dispersion for pulse compression without having to operate close to cutoff, which makes it possible to use such a compressor at the output of a high-power amplifier.
