Abstract
The authors present a versatile three-parameter (3-P) aperture distribution in order to obtain a larger parameter space so that various HPM (high-power microwave) criteria of a reflector antenna can be satisfied simultaneously. This 3-P distribution encompasses the 1-P and 2-P models, provides more flexible control on far-field characteristics, gives a more realistic account of the edge illumination and modifies a recently reported similar distribution for circular apertures, and applies to both circular and elliptical apertures. Typical 3-P aperture distributions are plotted for various combinations of the three parameters. Using a circular aperture and aiming at -23 dB SLL with the highest aperture efficiency, designs are created using the 3-P and other distributions. It is shown that the 3-P model produces higher aperture efficiency and narrower HPBW.<>
