Abstract :
The measuring relays and protection standards developed by IEC/TC95 have been playing critically important role in the history of power system development. They are widely used in all aspects of the power system including generation, transmission, distribution, and consumer. With the development of smart grid, the standardization of relays and protection will face great challenges and development opportunities. This paper presents the development strategies and objectives of the standardization of relays and protection by analyzing the needs of smart grids.
