Abstract
This paper illustrates the advantages of adjustable speed drives versus mechanical method. The enormous energy savings potential is experimentally illustrated. Moreover, the most important barriers to larger adjustable speed drives utilization in turbo-machine industry (pumps, fans...) are identified. In addition some recommendations are given to overcome identified obstacles.
