  • Abstract
In December 1989, a proposal was put forward jointly by Plessey Roke Manor Research, British Aerospace, and Southampton University under the Advanced Technology Programme of the IED. This proposal was approved, and was intended to start in July 1990; unforeseen circumstances intervened, however, so that essentially the same project will now be run with Plessey, ICL, and Southampton, and is expected to start in January 1991. The overall objectives of this programme of work are: (a) to study the opportunities offered by using the principles of boundary scan to test PCBs; (b) to establish the limitations imposed by practical circuit designs in which not all circuit elements have boundary scan facilities; and (c) to develop CAD software tools that will automatically overlay the necessary test structures onto an integrated circuit design, and to compile test programs conforming to the 1149.1 protocol
