Abstract
Research is continuing on development of controlled porosity cathodes capable of very long life times. Tungsten wires are sintered to form a material consisting of a uniform pattern of pores to transport barium from a reservoir. The combination of uniform pores and the reservoir results in very uniform current emission from the surface with extremely long life. The barium diffusion rate can be controlled by the designer.
