  • Abstract
United States Department of Defense Standard (DoD-STD) 2167A governs defense software development, while DoD-STD-2168 applies to the establishment and implementation of associated software quality programs. The author discusses a tool to aid in the management and development of software developed under these standards. The software audit tool is a pre-established knowledge base of evaluation criteria based on DoD-STDs-2167A and 2168 which is designed to determine the status of a software development project. The foundation of the tool-the knowledge base-provides for an extremely effective use of typically scarce project resources. Results of the audit are fed back to the sponsor where necessary changes can be directed. This tool, when properly applied, provides critical and timely management and technical information necessary to ensure project success
