Abstract
Concerns optical fibre local area networks (LANs) which have a multichannel transmission capability provided by WDM. To obtain the usual connectivity and functionality associated with LANs, it is desirable that multiple access is provided to all WDM channels within the network. Hence it is necessary to consider the architecture for the multichannel optical fibre LAN in this context. A novel token passing protocol for application on such high capacity LANs is then described and investigated, in order to demonstrate the attributes of wavelength division multiple access (WDMA)
