Abstract :
A great part of the dam walls are placed underwater; these make the process of monitoring and diagnosis to be very difficult and sometimes even dangerous for the divers. The video inspection system presents a modern method of analysis for the dam surface using a mobile digital camera. Capture pictures are submitted to computerized processing and analysis in order to detect whatever abnormal phenomena appear in the dam wall structure. The solution for the positioning of the digital camera must provide a high level of flexibility, stability, positioning accuracy, maneuverability and accessibility. The digital camera positioning system was considered placing the digital camera in a hanging position using a mechanical system installed on the dam upper part. The system architecture is structured on two hierarchical levels (control level and administration level), and has been designed as an open system (Priscu, 1974 and Ioan et al., 2004)
