Abstract
Discusses how the 1980s has seen significant advances in the characterisation and analysis of the statistical properties of sea clutter and its influence on the performance of high resolution maritime radar systems based on the K distribution. The authors present a preliminary investigation of the consequences of a more detailed theory, making particular reference to experimental data and to the simple physical pictures which are believed to underlie the success of the K distribution
