Abstract :
In the paper we describe the new approach to the dielectric properties of biological material investigation with implementation of artificial metamaterial structure (MMS) with negative permittivity and permeability over the open waveguide sensor in order to increase the sensing properties of classical waveguide sensor and achieve the optimal design of metamaterial structure for waveguide sensor tuning in microwave X-band. In the paper we investigate the possibility of metamaterial structure using for upgrading properties of classical waveguide sensor. The novel waveguide sensor was designated for non-destructive determination of biological tissues dielectric properties measurement in microwave frequency band. We have used numerical simulation for design of 2D metamaterial structure with negative refraction index and for optimisation of sensor parameters. An experimental method for dielectric constant of biological materials measurement is described in the paper.
