Abstract
An extensive experimental study has been carried out on the horn to determine the optimum geometry and the functional relationships among the electrical and physical parameters. The results of this study are presented. A suite of software has also been developed, utilising the modal matching technique, capable of analysing, not only the polyrod-fed horn, but also any type of dielectric loaded conical horn, as well as dual mode horns, such as the Potter and Satoh varieties. These horns are illustrated. The software is also capable of synthesizing the geometry of these horns from a given electrical specification. The results of this modal analysis on the polyrod-fed horn are also presented
