Abstract :
The South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) intend to build a network of light rail transit (Supertram) routes in order to improve public transport in the South Yorkshire region. Supertram will provide a fast, modern, reliable, high quality public transport system, with excellent access for the mobility impaired. Parts of the system will run on the streets along with some or all ordinary vehicles. The article discusses signalling to ensure priority, and the relationship between journey time and likely levels of patronage
