  • Abstract
This paper proposes an electronic controller using PWM technique for compensation of a highly reactive machine suitable for variable speed application. The generator is a flux-switching machine derived from an inductor alternator and the switched reluctance machine. Using an 8/4 configuration of this machine the electrical characteristics of this generator was determined from the open-circuit, short circuit and load tests. Compensation using fixed series capacitor has been investigated experimentally for voltage regulation and power factor control. Simulink model was developed for the flux-switching generator, and predictions using this model quite agree with the experimental result for fixed series compensation at constant speed. An electronic controller for power factor correction for the flux-switching generator using pwm technique is proposed for variable speed application. The experimental and simulation results using this technique showed an electronically controlled reactance can be achieved with this technique. This has resulted in a flux switching generator system with improved generators voltage regulation and performance.
