Abstract
What kinds of multiple choice test questions are asked in secondary marine science courses? Are the questions at a higher level than the recall or knowledge level? This paper discusses the answers to these questions. Over 1,500 questions were examined and categorized for its potential usefulness into one of three levels. In addition to categorizing each question according to its usefulness, each question was examined at the recall, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation levels. This study indicates that beginning and experienced marine science teachers need additional training in test construction and design.
