  • Abstract
Summary form only given. The HFC (hybrid coaxial cable) networks are being deployed by cable TV operators and by some other telecommunication service providers at an accelerated speed. Progress in the optical transmission technology and its creative deployment allows to maintain the positive features of the tree-and branch architecture while offering an ample number of opportunities for interactive, targeted telecommunication and entertainment services. Few challenges still exist, and optimization of the HFC network is and will be an ongoing effort. The progress in optical transmission technology plays a major role in this effort.
