Abstract :
This paper presents a novel and compact CPW fed rectangular patch antenna for the frequency 5.8GHz which falls in IEEE 802.11a WLAN (5.725GHz-5.825GHz) or RFID application. The measured -10dB impedance bandwidth is about 8.12% (5.55GHz-6.02GHz). The effect of substrate thickness, dielectric constant has been evaluated. The dielectric constant is 4.4 (FR4 Substrate) and loss tangent tan δ = 0.023. The results of antenna are simulated by using Zeeland´s MOM based IE3D tool. Two dimensional radiation patterns with elevation and azimuth angles, VSWR, Return loss of -28.5dB at 5.8GHz, antenna efficiency about 90%, gain above 3dB are obtained. The compact aperture area of the antenna is 13 × 11 mm2.
