Abstract :
Phase phenomena induced in optical fibers by residual absorption in the region of operational wavelengths are discussed. Changes in the phase characteristics initiated by the residual absorption are slight, but, like attenuation, they are accumulated during signal propagation through a fiber and need an experimental research. The magnitude of the phenomenon discussed increases with a number of channels in WDM systems. In this connection the question about the limit number of channels is actual one
