Abstract :
The authors introduce an efficient digital codec which uses a higher-order predictor. Four types of adaptive delta modulation (DM) algorithms have been used: HCDM, HCFIDM (hybrid constant factor incremental delta modulation), HSVADM, and MSHCDM. A detailed algorithm and computer simulation studies for the proposed system under various conditions are presented. Signal-to-noise ratio computation for three types of input signals indicates that the proposed scheme is superior to the normal hybrid DM. Effects of channel errors have been studied and the system is found to tolerate error rates on the order of 10-3 and 10-2
