Abstract
The authors investigate the steady-state behavior of a multirate adaptive IIR (infinite impulse response) notch filter whose coefficients are estimated using gradient and normalized gradient algorithms. The adaptive detection of a sinusoid with additive Gaussian noise has been investigated. With the help of the obtained difference equations, approximate and simple closed-form results are derived to obtain the mean-square error of coefficient fluctuation for a decimated filter. The present analysis verifies the excellent steady-state performance of the multirate adaptive notch filter recently proposed by M.R. Petraglia et al. (1990). The proposed method of analysis will be useful for the quantitative evaluation for the effects of multirate and block techniques in adaptive notch filters
