Abstract
Exploration in the ocean requires floating or fixed structures as a base. Reliable design guidelines and sophisticated analytical methods are necessary in order to protect the sizable investments involved and to ensure the safety of personnel. This paper gives a comprehensive review of design developments for steel and concrete ocean structures. In addition to addressing the implementation of design codes, applications of recent advancements in computer technology are also discussed.
