Abstract
Currently the two most popular speech analysis by synthesis coding techniques are multi-pulse linear predictive coding (MP-LPC) and code excited linear prediction (CELP). Much of the recent work on CELP has been concentrated on complexity reduction and improved quantisation of the LPC filter. This paper focuses on a new complexity reduction technique for CELP coders employing sparse vector codebooks
