Abstract
Summary form only given. The longitudinal distribution of chromatic dispersion in G.653 fiber links is important to evaluate the impact of nonlinearities in multichannel telecommunication systems. Normally characterizations are performed in terms of average values for the zero-dispersion wavelength X, and slope S. Various methods have been proposed to measure the dispersion map of a fiber, but have been applied only in the laboratory. This contribution presents the results of field measurements to determine the dispersion map of an installed G.653 link, using a portable equipment based on partially degenerate four wave mixing (PD-FWM) and a commercial optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR).
