Abstract
The concept of welding with electron beams demonstrated in the 1950´s captured the imagination of both technologists and industrialists alike. The process was borne in the nuclear industry, spread rapidly into aerospace and general engineering applications and today is used for the fabrication of numerous components ranging from micro-circuit packages to thick section pressure vessels. The author discusses some of these applications and as well as a project to develop a nonvacuum electron beam facility
