Abstract :
A novel model for the quantization noise modulation to the baseband is proposed and analyzed. It is shown that the quantization noise intermodulation is independent of the input signal level for practical oversampling ratios. The intermodulation is caused by the nonlinearities of the sample and hold device in the 1-bit D/A. Useful equations for estimating the modulating quantization noise in the baseband from measurable parameters are presented. Several circuit considerations are discussed to reduce the unwanted effects of the nonlinearities
