Abstract
As a preliminary step towards a behavior view for EDIF, the author demonstrates what a behavior view might look like based on ELLA. ELLA is a commercially available hardware description language and support environment. The language supports high level features such as user defined signal types, user defined leaf cell models, functionality and sequential programming constructs. The aim has been made to make a minimal set of upwards compatible changes to EDIF 200 to accommodate all the high level features of ELLA Version 3. New keywords have only been introduced therefore where none in existence seems to fit. The ELLA constructs for handling associated types (variant records) and bidirectionals have been transliterated into EDIF
