Abstract
The author discusses various approaches for developing highly dependable software and presents an overview of software fault tolerance techniques. Diversity is the main ingredient of fault tolerance. Various forms of diversity such as design diversity, data diversity and functional diversity and their potentials in tolerating errors in a complex software are also discussed
