  • Abstract
Automatic train control system (ATC) is a safety related system in urban rail transportation. As the latest ATC technology, the communication based train control (CBTC) system is a large-scale knowledge based system. The architecture, the trackside control level and the onboard control level of CBTC are discussed. Database storage unit (DSU), one of the five main components of CBTC, plays a key rule in CBTC. The track knowledge, including line grade, maximum speed limit, transponder locations, line topology are stored in the track database of DSU. The train database of DSU contains various trains´ parameters such as length, speed, acceleration, deceleration, train time responses, etc. And the dynamic track database of DSU stores the data that can be modified by the ATS operator. The Zone controller in the trackside control level and vehicle onboard controller in the onboard control level work by using the knowledge in these databases.
