Abstract
BNFL has detailed experience and knowledge in the application of installed radiometric instrumentation, primarily at Sellafield. The range of applications is extensive and comprises: (i) process monitoring; (ii) waste characterisation; (iii) fissile material accountancy; (iv) environmental discharge monitoring; (v) workplace monitoring. The scale of the systems ranges from single stand alone instruments to large building surveillance and evacuation systems incorporating many airborne contamination monitors. Over 600 alpha-in-air monitors, 1000beta-in-air monitors and 500gamma monitors have been installed in 30 new plants at Sellafield since 1975
