  • Abstract
    The broadcast of maritime safety information (MSI) is a core function of modern maritime communications. The author explains what MSI is and the three main sources from which it comes: IMO/IHO World-Wide Navigational Warnings Service; national meteorological organisations; and national search and rescue authorities. The broadcast of MSI using the INMARSAT SafetyNET service and FleetNET service is discussed. In particular the SafetyNET coded preamble, C-codes, are explained
