  • Abstract
A video compression technique has been developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG-Video) in order to achieve both universal and cost-effective solutions for video compression. The MPEG video compression technique covers many applications, from interactive systems to movies. The quality of the compressed video with the MPEG algorithm at about 1.5 Mb/s is comparable to that of consumer-grade VCRs. The quality, cost, and features of the MPEG video algorithm makes it directly applicable to personal computers and workstations, thus allowing the development of many new applications integrating video, sound, images, text, and graphics.<>
