The paper is based on work undertaken by the network planning task group (TGV) of CEC RACE project R1022 in addressing the topic of ATM dimensioning from the viewpoint of a network planner (rather than a teletraffic theorist). It summarises traffic work undertaken within R1022 by presenting the important issues related to ATM traffic engineering
