Abstract
The authors propose a method for quickly and effectively measuring the scattering pattern of a building on TV broadcasting waves in the VHF band. The scattering pattern obtained from this method takes into account all the complex properties of the building materials. This method utilizes the concept of determining the scattering pattern of an object from a knowledge of the near-field distribution using the Huygen´s principles. The scattering field distribution on the surface of the wall is measured and then the scattering pattern is calculated by using it. A probe antenna developing the scattering field is necessary for this method. The authors describe the radiation characteristics of the probe antenna, and an experimental result which was carried out on their campus using the video carrier wave of VHF TV broadcasting (frequency 205.25MHz, TM incidence) is discussed
