Abstract
Existing and proposed personal communications systems use small handsets equipped with simple antennas which are placed close to the user´s head. The proximity of the head, and usually to a lesser extent the body, will obviously have a large effect on the azimuth coverage pattern of the antenna. A computer model of such effects would be of great assistance in designing the handset antennas in a systematic way. The paper describes an attempt to develop simple, fast-running software based on a homogeneous head model with an equivalent mean permittivity
