Abstract :
In the towns and villages supplied with electrical energy by the Compagnie vaudoise d´electricite (CVE), where requirements are continually increasing, customers appear less and less willing to allocate ground for siting the MV/LV substations necessary for public distribution of electricity. At the same time-as in all the worlds´ industrialized countries-an increasing opposition to the external signs of industry can be felt among the population. Here, the author describes how for some time, to counter these trends, CVE has been developing a line of compactly dimensioned MV/LV substations, designed to be embedded in earth banks and therefore be unobtrusive while remaining inexpensive
