On site MV-cable testing with AC-voltages

For testing MV-cables on site, there are quite different approaches in use. In the past mainly DC-testing was used, but for several years, different designs for test voltage sources have appeared. The cable manufacturers and research institutes no longer recommend DC-testing for PE/XLPE cables with aged dielectric. The authors discuss AC testing and in particular the resonant test set. The aims of the testing, test extensions, and practical experience are discussed
