  • Abstract
    I give a personal perspective on early telecom modulator research following Maiman´s demonstration of the first laser in 1960. I start with the 9 GHz KDP linear electrooptic amplitude modulator and follow with the Ti-diffused lithium niobate planar phase modulator.
