Abstract
A numerical model has been developed to simulate relaxation process of potential on charged oil surface in an earthed metal container. In the model, constant conductivity of oil was assumed, and surface charge formation and leakage current through the surface were taken into account. Calculation by this model shows that relaxation speed is affected not only by geometrical arrangement, but also by the absolute size of the container. Furthermore, obtained results indicates that dimensionless quantity D/sub t/*k/ lambda and normalized relaxation time constant could be quite well correlated, where D/sub t/ is the tank diameter, k is the specific conductivity, and lambda is the surface conductivity of oil.<>
